Backstage News On WWE’s Plans For Liv Morgan And AJ Lee At WrestleMania 42

The 2026 Women's Royal Rumble Match was won by Liv Morgan of The Judgment. Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Morgan was favored to win the Royal Rumble even before the event took place. He also pointed out that the outcome has positioned Morgan as a logical challenger for the reigning Women's World Champion, Stephanie Vaquer. Their recent confrontation in Philadelphia has further added context for a potential rivalry.

Meltzer mentioned that another possible opponent for Morgan at WrestleMania 42 could be WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. In the men’s division, WWE has identified the top three stars for the WrestleMania main events, which are clear, but the situation is less definitive for the women.

Additionally, Meltzer noted that Rhea Ripley, despite being the biggest star in the division, is currently featured in the tag team scene alongside IYO SKY. Becky Lynch, ranked second, continues her storyline centered on the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, with no reported change to her opponent, AJ Lee. Although Lee did not participate in the Women's Rumble, Meltzer indicated that her absence did not serve any purpose.

Furthermore, Meltzer reported that the women’s tag division has become a key focus in terms of booking for the women’s roster. Teams like Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, Nia Jax and Lash Legend, and The Bella Twins have received consistent attention. The emphasis on tag teams, along with potential returns involving Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, has further shifted focus away from singles competitions.
