Backstage Update On Chris Jericho’s Current Contract Status With AEW

During this past Monday night's episode of WWE RAW, a mysterious crate, roughly person-sized, appeared in a backstage segment with instructions not to open it until February 28th, coinciding with the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event (PLE). The crate sparked immediate speculation that it might be related to pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho, who has been rumored to be considering a return to WWE once his contract with AEW expires.

According to Fightful Select, the box is not intended for Jericho at this time, as he is still listed on the AEW roster page, indicating he remains under contract. Jericho has not appeared on AEW television since April of last year. The publication reported that sources close to both Jericho and AEW believe his contract was frozen while he took time off.

While it remains unclear when Jericho's contract with AEW will expire, the time he has spent injured could potentially lead to an extension of his deal, along with other factors. There is also the possibility that he may have re-signed, but currently, there is no confirmation either way. The report stated that they have officially inquired multiple times about Jericho's status with AEW but have not received a response—unlike the usual protocol when a talent leaves. Additionally, there has been no internal memo regarding Jericho's exit, which typically occurs when a wrestler departs.

It has been noted that Jericho has yet to announce any AEW talent for the latest Jericho Cruise scheduled for November. Sources indicate that Jericho is still actively accepting convention dates for the coming months. Those close to him have been tight-lipped about his future. Jericho has reportedly mentioned to others that he would be open to a return to WWE but is concerned about having to relinquish his remaining outside projects should he make that move.
