Backstage Update On Chris Jericho’s Status After Missing WWE Royal Rumble 2026

The topic of pro wrestling legend Chris Jericho's potential signing with WWE has been widely discussed since August of last year. Reports have indicated that the inaugural AEW World Champion's contract with the company was set to expire at the end of 2025. Many fans expected him to make a return to WWE at the 2026 Royal Rumble premium live event, but that did not happen.

According to Fightful Select, Jericho was not included in any of WWE's plans, despite some conflicting reports. The outlet noted that he was never considered for the one-year anniversary show of RAW on Netflix, nor for the Royal Rumble. However, sources within WWE expressed interest in Jericho should he become available.

The issue arises from the fact that, according to the AEW roster site, Jericho is currently under contract and not available. The contract he signed in 2022 was supposed to last until the end of 2025, but it appears to have been extended. It remains unclear whether Jericho signed a contract extension or if AEW froze his contract due to time spent away from the ring. As of now, he is still listed on the AEW roster.

In related news, it has been previously reported that Jericho is set to appear in the new Apple TV drama "Margo Has Money Troubles." He shared a photo from the show on his Twitter (X) account, featuring himself alongside Nicole Kidman.
