Drew McIntyre Opens Up About Going Through Family Issues; Says Leaving WWE Was Never Considered

-- Drew McIntyre's status with WWE moving forward was a major topic of internet rumors for the better part of the year, with his old contract coming up for expiry yet no deal signed. This naturally led to reports that perhaps McIntyre was on his way out, potentially to join AEW as he was someone that Tony Khan coveted as a free agent addition.

-- McIntyre recently spoke to PWInsiderElite.com for an interview where he stated that leaving WWE was never really on the table and that the delay on putting pen to paper on a new deal came down to some challenges he was experiencing personally.

"It was never a consideration (to leave WWE). I’m wrestling with WWE. I don’t think in the sense am I gonna go wrestle somewhere else, this is where I want to wrestle. I don’t want to be anywhere else but our family has gone through a lot over the past year. Things in my own family and my wife’s sister unfortunately passed a year ago yesterday. That was very difficult and I felt like I’m gonna have to take some serious time for my family. There was a period where I was like maybe I’m gonna have to take a little break and come back and some uncertainty. Thankfully as a family, we came together and WWE gave me the time I needed whenever I needed it during that period and in the end, as a family we came together. We had a conversation about what was best for us. The company was unbelievable with that and thankfully everybody is in a great place right now."

-- McIntyre is believed to have signed a lucrative, three year contract to remain with WWE that was announced on social media by The Rock. Reports suggest that the deal makes him one of WWE's highest paid performers.
