Former NWA Star To Enter Hospice Care

Pro wrestling legend Rick Link, widely recognized for his feud with WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler and his time in the NWA, has entered hospice care. His sister announced the sad news last Friday, revealing that the two-time AWA Southern Heavyweight Champion is nearing the end of his life. The announcement was made through a GoFundMe campaign seeking assistance with his upcoming funeral expenses.

Link grew up as a fan of professional wrestling and began training at the age of 15 under Johnny Hunter. He made his professional wrestling debut in 1975, competing for Hunter’s Eastern Wrestling Association and the IWA, among others.

In 1979, Link began working for the NWA, where he feuded with Lawler in Memphis and became involved in Lawler’s feud with Andy Kaufman. He entered semi-retirement in 2010, with his most recent match recorded at Revolution Wrestling Authority’s Unfinished Business in May 2023.
