Latest Backstage Update On WWE’s WrestleMania 42 Plans For Royce Keys

Recently, there has been considerable discussion about WWE's potential plans for Royce Keys at WrestleMania 42. According to a report earlier this month from BodySlam+, there have been internal discussions about Keys teaming up with country music star Jelly Roll for a tag team match at the event in Las Vegas next month. The storyline would focus on the respective hardships that both Keys and Jelly have faced on their journeys to the top.

However, a recent report from Dave Meltzer suggests a different direction. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer mentioned that he inquired with WWE sources about the possibility of Jelly and Keys teaming up at WrestleMania. He was informed that Keys has not been included in any plans, though he was not told whether there is a match planned for Jelly as well. It appears that WWE may still be building towards a match.

Jelly made his return to WWE programming last Friday night on SmackDown as a guest on MizTV. During the segment, The Miz attempted to take credit for Jelly's weight loss and offered his mentorship, which Jelly rejected. The segment was interrupted by Kit Wilson, who accused the musician of being "fatphobic" and promoting unrealistic beauty standards. The segment ended with Jelly inadvertently striking The Miz after being shoved by Wilson, who is set to call out Jelly later tonight.

As for Keys, the former AEW star made his WWE debut at the 2026 Royal Rumble Premium Live Event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last January. However, he has not been featured on television since then. BodySlam+ recently provided an update explaining that WWE has been using Keys in dark matches before SmackDown to give him in-ring time while the creative team finalizes his future direction. Additionally, a source indicated that SmackDown is still expected to be the brand where Keys will land.
