More Backstage News & Rumors On TKO's Thought Process On Recent Talent Releases

More news and backstage rumors continue to spill in from the fallout of WWE's recent slew of releases.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that this year's releases were significant in number because of the fact that last year's release count was low due to the fact that TKO was "too new" as WWE's ownership group and didn't want to come across as "bad guys."

Meltzer noted that TKO had only recently taken over WWE and were trying to be good guys by not ordering a ton of cuts so they held back and decided to "catch up" this year.

He also reported that TKO's aim was to align the number of cuts with the number of NXT wrestlers who were called up as well as accounting for the fact that Smackdown will be moving back to two hours in a couple of months. Meltzer noted that TKO actually went to WWE's creative team and asked for a list of "x" number of names that they weren't planning on using and that number was the names brought up plus the extra names who were on Smackdown which is why that brand was hit harder.

Finally, Meltzer also stated that everyone who is going to be cut as part of this latest round of releases have been notified but he cryptically shared that not all of the names have necessarily become public knowledge yet.
