Paramount+ Axes Star Trek: Starfleet Academy After Two Seasons

According to Variety, Paramount+ has canceled "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" after two seasons. The report indicates that this decision marks the end of the series, which featured WWE star Becky Lynch in a recurring role as Lieutenant Mackenzie Ya aboard the U.S.S. Athena.

The report also mentions that production on the second season was completed before the cancellation, and while an official premiere date has not been confirmed, the remaining episodes are expected to air as planned, thereby concluding the storyline without further continuation.

The series premiered its first season in January and concluded it on March 12. It introduced a new group of Starfleet cadets while maintaining ties to established Star Trek lore. The show received generally positive feedback for its character development and references to franchise history. However, it struggled to secure a consistent position in major streaming rankings, including Nielsen’s weekly top ten charts.

In a joint statement, CBS Studios and Paramount+ acknowledged the contributions of the creative team, including showrunners Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, and Gaia Violo. The statement also expressed appreciation for the cast and crew for their efforts in continuing Gene Roddenberry’s broader vision.
