Saturday Night's Main Event Live Results (Dec. 13, 2025) - Washington, DC

Show Opening

We're shown several superstars and celebrities, ranging from Mark Henry & Kurt Angle, to Jon Bernthal (the Punisher) & Metro Boomin. We're shown a decked-out arena with tons of Cena paraphernalia. A video recapping brief bits of Cena's career is played, narrated by the Undertaker. After the video, we get a rundown of the card showing most of the Superstars backstage. Joe Tessitore and Stephanie McMahon--the upcoming 2026 WWE Hall of Fame inductee--are shown briefly touching on Cena's career and what it means to the fans and industry.

Singles Match: Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs NXT Champion Oba Femi

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes begins his entrance at 8:09pm, followed by NXT Champion Oba Femi who gets a great reaction from the Washington DC crowd. We get our bell at 8:13pm EST. The crowd does that annoying one chant they picked up from European crowds. After wasting time, both men finally lock up. The opening moments are rather slow, with neither man taking a firm control for sometime. Femi's strength is showcased and commentary spend time building up Femi and his meteoric rise in NXT over the last three years. Femi finally takes a turn in control, battering Rhodes with an Irish backbreaker and powerful blows in the corner. Femi maintains control for a few minutes, dominating Cody to the crowd's delight.
Cody looks to rally at 8:18pm, and successfully chains several strikes together. Cody hits a Cody Cutter but Femi kicks out at two. Cody looks for another Cutter but is caught by Femi. Femi drops Rhodes with a big right hand. The action picks up its pace as the two battle in and out of the ring. Cody fires off some offense, but Femi shuts it down with a brutal Spinebuster. Oba covers but no joy. The crowd's into this, rooting for both superstars. Femi looks for a Lawn Dart but Rhodes escapes, drops down and hits an uppercut. Rhodes heads outside but eats a huge running strike from Oba that sends him flying over commentary and busts him open. Femi takes it into the ring and hits a big, brutal Chokeslam, covering for another close two. Cena vs Gunther will be our main event. Cody pops up and hits an Avalanche Cody Cutter (off the top rope instead of the mddle rope), covering for a close two! Drew McIntyre hits the ring at 8:22pm and begins to pummel Rhodes, causing the DQ to massive boos!

After the Match: Chaos Ensues

Oba Femi rises and is pissed with Drew McIntyre. McIntyre gets in his face and starts to jaw off; Femi shoves McIntyre down and across the ring! Cody Rhodes rises and hits a Cody Cutter on Drew McIntyre. Oba Femi attacks McIntyre and hits a big Chokeslam that sends the Scottish Psychopath rolling out of the ring. Cody and Oba confront each other, then Cody hoists both their hands up with belts to a nice pop.

Singles Match: Bayley w/ Lyra Valkyria vs NXT's Sol Ruca w/ Zaria

Bayley is out first to a nice pop, accompanied by Lyra Valkyria. Sol Ruca, accompanied by Zaria, is out next. We get our bell at 8:38pm. Our superstars lock up and quickly take it down to the canvas in a game of grapples and holds. This goes on for several moments, with both superstars executing the athletic and extensive sequence impressively. Bayley at one point tries to lift Sol up on her shoulders but buckles; Sol expertly covers it with a quick roll-up attempt. Both superstars run full steam for the opening minutes, taking turns in control. Ruca sends Bayley out and hits a backspring diving attack over the top to wipe out Bayley on the outside. Great at, roughly 8:41pm EST. Ruca goes for a springboard splash but Bayley moves out of the way and takes down Ruca. Bayley with a buckle bomb flip. Bayley covers but no joy.
Ruca begins to build momentum, stringing together strikes before hitting a release German Suplex to a nice lil' pop. Ruca goes up top and hits a DDT on Bayley after cartwheeling on the rope. She covers for two. Bayley stops her momentum with a Bayley-to-Belly suplex for a cover attempt of her own. Bayley positions Ruca in a tree of woe position and hits a bottom-rope springboard elbow drop. Bayley covers but no joy. Bayley charges Ruca; Ruca counters with a Superkick. Bayley looks for a Rose Plant; Ruca rolls through and hits a Shining Wizard, covering for two. Bayley blocks a Sol Snatcher with a face-plant smash. Bayley hits the Rose Plant and covers, but Ruca gets her foot on the ropes. Bayley grows visibly angry. Bayley heads up top and looks for a diving elbow drop, but Ruca gets the knees up. Ruca fires off a Sol Snatcher, and it connects! Bayley tries to roll up Sol but Ruca counters and picks up the win at 8:47pm!

Cross-Brand Tag Team Match: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee vs NXT's Je'Von Evans & TNA's Leon Slater

After quite a bit of hub-bub, we finally get our entrances. Our bell comes at 9:06pm. Evans & Slater immediately attack Lee & Styles, sending them outside. Evans follows it up with a diving splash over the ropes to the outside, followed by Slater. Evans and Lee are now legal and in the ring. This match has started off fast. We're reminded that "the Young OG" Evans defeated the Miz last night on SmackDown. We get replays from the insane opening moments. Lee tags in TNA's Leon Slater, and the two work together to isolate Dragon Lee in the corner as Styles is helpless to watch from across the ring. The action continues as Dragon Lee gains some separation with a powerbomb. AJ Styles is tagged in and the pace continues at break-neck speed. Evans & Slater work over Styles; Dragon Lee looks to help but is neutralized. Evans with the OG Cutter off the top; Slater heads up top and hits a beautiful Swanton 450!
Evans covers but Dragon Lee hits the ring and kicks Slater back and onto the pin, breaking the attempt! The crowd rips off several chants in appreciation of the fast-paced, high-octane match we're seeing. The ref allows a lot of lateral as multiple persons enter and exit the ring and battle at ringside. Lee dives outside, wiping out Evans. Slater looks for a finisher on Styles, but AJ escapes it. AJ looks for a Styles Clash but Slater escapes. Styles looks for a Phenomenal Forearm but slips on the top rope and crashes hard to the canvas. Ouch! Slater covers but only gets two. AJ's down, the ref checks on him, but he's fine. Slater heads up top and dives off; Styles catches him and immediately hits a Styles Clash to pick up the win at 9:13pm! After the match, all four competitors do the Cena salute to the camera. Styles & Slater, with a deep TNA Wrestling history, embrace.

Something Awesome, Something True, Something Believable

We get more video hyping Cena, including nice words congratulating him from people such as Tom Brady. We cut to the ring and the Miz is on the mic. He demands respect, pointing out he was a big part of Cena's legacy. R-Truth dressed as Ron Cena hits the ring! "I saw what you did, Miz...you did something inappropriate with Nick Aldis' balls!" He tells the Miz that there's an opportunity and gives him a slip of paper. The Miz reads it out loud, it's a simple name--Joe Hendry! And he appears! The Miz demands people stop clapping and singing along. The Miz tries to attack Hendry; Hendry easily fights him off and hits his Strong-Away Slam (Fallaway Slam). He kips up and does his dramatic spin with R-Truth. They do stereo 5-Knuckle Shuffles to the elation of the crowd. Hendry hoists the Miz up for a Standing Ovation (type of chokeslam). Hendry covers, R-Truth does the 3 count, and the crowd celebrates. Hendry, R-Truth and the 19,000+ in attendance do the Hendry wave! Again R-Truth and Hendry pose in the ring, shoulder-to-shoulder, smiling. It's announced the next SNME will be January 24th, 2026.

Main Event Retirement Match: John Cena vs Gunther

Well, folks, this is it. The time is now and after this match, you won't see John Cena again. (Except in movies, tv, and as WWE's newest ambassador through 2030). Get your popcorn, drinks, and tissues because this match is coming up next. Gunther begins his entrance at 9:32pm EST. If you want to watch Cena come out one last time, turn Peacock on NOW! After his entrance, the crowd rips off an incredibly loud "Let's go, Cena" chant until he makes his entrance at 9:36pm. The roof about rips off as 19,000+ people roar and cheer and sing along! Cena speaks to Stew tells him "this is going to seem weird," then takes the camera from Stew briefly to put his favorite personal camera man on tv for a few. He hands it back and hits the ring to another uptick in the pop. He plays up to the crowd, soaking it in one last time. Cena heads ringside and hugs several people, including RVD, Kurt Angle, Mark Henry, Sami Zayn, and Elias! We get our official announcements at 9:40pm. We get our bell at 9:42pm.
Both superstars lock up with a simple collar-and-elbow tie-up. The crowd is very loud and very hot for his, as expected. Both men break up and circle. Gunther walks off, exiting the ropes as the crowd boos. Senior Official Chad Patton talks to him, and the crowd rips off a very loud "asshole" chant. Ha! Gunther drops Cena and taunts the crowd. Gunther pulls Cena up and knocks him back down again. The crowd rips off a "f- you Gunther" chant that gets censored. The Ring General takes a lengthy stretch in control, using a slow pace. Gunther looks or a big chop but Cena blocks it and tells him no. Cena hits a series of shoulder tackles and starts his comeback sequence to a big pop. Cena lays out Gunther with a Atomic Drop then hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle to a massive pop. Gunther staggers to his feet and Cena looks for the AA; Gunther counters with a German Suplex. Gunther hints at a Sleeper but Cena escapes. Cena slaps on the STFU in the middle of the ring! The crowd's on their feet! Gunther's crawling towards the ropes but Cena's using his weight to slow his egress; Gunther screams in agony, reaching dramatically for the ropes. Cena breaks the hold, trying to drag Gunther back; Gunther kicks him off.
Gunther with a dropkick to Cena, followed by a powerbomb. The crowd rips off another "f- you, Gunther" chant as he soaks it all in. Gunther charges a rising Cena, dropping him with a brutal chop. Gunther yells down at Cena then slows the pace drastically, stalking around Cena. As Cena rises slowly, Gunther drops him with another big clothesline. Michael Cole compares Gunther to great 80's heels based on his tactics. Gunther waits, again, for Cena to rise then hits him with another clothesline. The crowd loudly boos and yells insults as Gunther tries to humiliate the G.O.A.T. Another "asshole" chant from the DC crowd. Yes, the pacing is that slow. Cena rises slowly, again; Gunther clotheslines him down, again. Rinse and repeat a few times here.
At 9:51pm, Cena rises and finally realizes what's up. Cena ducks under the clothesline and begins another comeback sequence. Shoulder tackles, five knuckle shuffle, and finally--a successful Attitude Adjustment! Cena covers but Gunther kicks out! Cena repeatedly tells the crowd "one more time" and hoists Gunther up. Gunther escapes; Gunther counters and slaps on a sleeper hold in the middle of the ring! Cena starts to power to his feet. Cena escapes and slaps a Sleeper on Gunther in shades of Jey Uso at WrestleMania! The crowd's on fire as they have been the entire match. Gunther gets a foot on the ropes, and the ref forces the break. Gunther rolls outside. Cena exits the ng and pursues. Gunther catches Cena with a chop, then drops Cena across the apron. Gunther sends Cena into the steal steps then enters the ring. Gunther positions steel steps near the commentary table and positions Cena on it.
Gunther clears off the top of the commentary table, climbs the steps and tries to powerbomb through the table. Cena counters, hoisting Gunther up and hitting the AA through the table! Both superstars are down at 9:55pm. Cena manages to get them both in the ring to break the ref's count. Cena goes up top as Gunther rises. Cena with a leg drop off the top rope! Cena covers but Gunther kicks out at 2! The crowd rips off a loud "you still got it" chant. Cena rises, tells the crowd "you still have it" and yells for one more AA to a big pop. "Hey, hey! This is the last one! I need to hear you!" The crowd is on their feet as John Cena does the Five Knuckle shuffle one last time. Gunther rises and big boots Cena in the face! Gunther hits a powerbomb and covers, but Cena kicks out! Gunther climbs up top but Cena pops up and hits him with a big right. Cena goes up top and hits an Avalanche FU! Cena covers but Gunther kicks out!
After several moments, both men rise and the two superstars begin slowly slugging it out in the middle of the ring. Cena looks for an AA but Gunther escapes and powerbombs Cena. Gunther goes up top and hits a Frog Splash off the top, covering! Cena kicks out at 2! Gunther's livid and yells for Cena to get up. Gunther posts in the corner, awaiting The crowd chants "Super Cena" over and over. Cena rises; Gunther immediately slaps on the Sleeper in the middle of the ring. Cena drops to one knee, slowly fading. Gunther keeps the hold locked. Cena raises an arm and starts to fight back, powering out of the Sleeper. Gunther slaps it back on, though. Cena powers Gunther up onto his shoulders, but Gunther escapes and keeps the Sleeper cinched in. Several moments go by.
Cena again powers to his feet; Gunther hops up on Cena's back. Cena begins to fade again but stays on his feet. Cena runs back, ramming Gunther into the turnbuckles to gain separation. Gunther immediately slaps the Sleeper on again. Cena breaks the hold; Gunther goes for the sleeper but Cena ducks under and hit an AA! Cena covers but Gunther escapes, then slaps the Sleeper back on Cena! The crowd loudly chants "don't give up" and he tries to stay in this. The ref begins to check Cena's arm but he holds it firm on the third check. The crowd erupts and it's Super Cena time! Cena powers to his feet; Gunther pummels his head with elbows and Super Cena time ends prematurely. Gunther keeps it cinched in and...Cena just pulls a hand to his shoulder, smiles sadly, and taps it to tap out at 10:05pm.
Your Winner by Submission, Gunther. (23 minutes)

After the Match: John Cena's Goodbye

We're reminded that this is the first time in 20+ years that Cena has tapped out. I don't think commentary understands that we knew Cena would probably lose, the ending came so suddenly when it felt like we had a little bit more time left. Cena is shown in the ring as the crowd loudly chants "bullshit." He says off-mic "that's all I got." He slowly rises in the ring and the crowd loudly chants "Thank you, Cena!" Cena bows to the crowd, each side of the ring.
Triple H, the Undertaker, CM Punk, HBK, Stephanie, Bruce Pritchard and many others come to the ring. The crowd LOUDLY chants "you fucked up." Cody Rhodes and CM Punk enter the ring and give John Cena their titles to a huge pop. Cena poses with both titles on his shoulders as the crowd, Stew, ref Charles "Little Naitch" Robinson, and the entire roster present applaud. The ringside area is flooded by Superstars, officials and Legends. Cena goes to give the belts back and the crowd boos; Rhodes & Punk tell him to celebrate more. Cena has fun raising the belts to the different sides of the arena, seeing who cheers louder. He gives the belts back at 10:13pm and approaches Triple H. Please note: the fans LOUDLY BOO THE HELL OUT OF TRIPLE H anytime he does anything.
We get a video package on the tron, a surprise that even Cena hasn't seen yet. Lots of nostalgic clips, voiceover words of praise to Cena, et cetera. Very sweet video, even had John Cena's moms in it. It'll be on the WWE website/YouTube shortly. Cena is shown emotional in the ring watching the video.
When the video is over, we're shown the ringside area completely packed with even more Superstars and officials. Cena bows, salutes the crowd one last time, and leaves his boots and arm bands in the ring at 10:18pm. Cena exits the ring, heads up the ramp, and pauses to look at the crowd one last time. He bows once more to the camera, salutes it. "it's been a pleasure serving you all these years." He walks off to the back, we fade to black and thus concludes the greatest professional wrestling career in the history of sports entertainment. Thank you, John Cena.
