Update On When WWE Will Return To Saudi Arabia This Year

The official Twitter account of The Wrestling Club, a Twitter fan page based in the Middle East, said that the Saudi General Sport Authority’s Ministry of Sport has decided that November will be the next time WWE holds an event in Saudi Arabia, but no specific date or venue was given. PWInsider then said that according to a source within the WWE they are expecting to hold one event in Saudi Arabia in the fall, but no specific date was set.

WWE's last event in Saudi Arabia was the 2020 Super ShowDown Event, which took place in February 2020 at the Mohammed Abdu Arena in Riyadh. Since then, the company has not held an event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they were scheduled to hold one more event in 2020 and a first event in early 2021. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reportedly lifted some of their COVID-19 restrictions back in late May, and media from their country has mentioned that they are serious about opening back up for concerts and sporting events.

In 2018, a 10-year strategic multi-platform partnership was agreed upon and signed by the WWE and the Saudi General Sports Authority in order to support the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative, which is Saudi's social and economic reform program. The agreement has WWE set for two events to be held per year, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced delays for a second event in 2020 and a first event in 2021. WWE visited Saudi Arabia for the Greatest Royal Rumble and Crown Jewel in 2018, Super ShowDown and Crown Jewel in 2019, and Super ShowDown in 2020.
