As previously reported, WWE filed to trademark the “Alba Fyre” and “Katana Chance” in-ring names with the USPTO (the United States Patent and Trademark Office) for entertainment services last April 12th. PWInsider.com reports that WWE NXT Stars Kacy Catanzaro and Kay Lee Ray have been given brand-new in-ring names, with Kacy Catanzaro’s in-ring name now known as Katana Chance and Kay Lee Ray’s ring name now known as Alba Fyre.
Kacy Catanzaro, who signed with the WWE in January of 2018 and who is a former American Ninja Warrior competitor, made her in-ring debut at an NXT live event on April 19th, 2018 in Sanford, Florida, when she lost to Reina González. Kacy Catanzaro also competed in that year's Women's Mae Young Classic and she would even participate in the 2019 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match. Catanzaro has since been put in a team with Kayden Carter and they have been on quite the winning streak.
Kay Lee Ray, who would initially make her WWE in-ring debut on the October 8, 2015 tapings of NXT TV, when she lost to Nia Jax and who would compete in the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017, officially signed with the promotion at WWE NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool on January 12th, 2019. Kay Lee Ray became the first-ever British-born NXT UK Women's Champion at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff, when she beat former WWE Superstar Toni Storm. Kay Lee Ray made her NXT debut at WWE NXT TakeOver 36 following the WWE NXT Womens Championship match between Raquel González and Dakota Kai. Kay Lee Ray would then win the 2022 Women's Dusty Rhodes Cup with Io Shirai.
The reason for Kacy Catanzaro and Kay Lee Ray to have their in-ring names changed is WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon doesn’t want talents using their real names or names that they used before the WWE. There are a number of exceptions to the rule such as Ronda Rousey, Gable Steveson and Brock Lesnar as the changes will more than likely happen with talents in NXT or talents that have recently been moved to the main roster.
