WWE Considering Reducing the Number of House Shows to Bolster Average Attendance

-- There has been internal discussions within WWE of cutting back on the number of house shows while doing more dual-brand super shows, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The reasons for this idea is both to increase attendance with more star power on the shows, but also to eliminate the weaker house shows that ultimately drag down the company's quarterly average.

-- With house show numbers declining this past quarter, WWE reduced the number of these events from 60 to 52, it eliminated the eight lower drawing house shows, while also making the PPVs and live Raw events count for more. With the 8 shows cancelled last quarter, the house show average went down from 5,000 to 4,700 but if the eight shows were added back at an average attendance of about 2,500, the average would have fallen to 4,400 and possibly alarmed investors. Furthermore, the shows that WWE cancelled last quarter were ones that the company was projected to lose money on anyway.
