Last March 3rd, WWE filed to trademark the promotion's old scratch logo with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) for merchandising purposes and it was noted on the trademark filing that the “mark consists of two stacked “W” letters with a scar underneath.”
WWE's old scratch logo, which was created and debuted in 1997 around the time of Survivor Series, was highly popular during the WWE's Attitude Era when the company was still known as the WWF. In May 2002 when WWE had to change their name from World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainment as they lost their court case with the World Wildlife Foundation, the promotion had to change everything affiliated and connected with the WWF, including the scratch logo, which they used until the time the company was rebranded with a new emblem in 2014.
Below is the use description submitted to the USPTO:
“Mark For: WW™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of bed blankets, bed linens, comforters, quilts, bed sheets, bedspreads, curtains, draperies, pillow cases, bath linen, towels of textile; woven fabrics; hooded towels; sleeping bags.”
