WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Results (12/18/2020) - ThunderDome II (Tropicana Field), St. Petersburg, FL

Last Week on Smackdown

We start our program showing clips from last week's Smackdown. Kevin Owens made his way to the ring, talking smack to Roman--who, watching in the back with Jey Uso & Paul Heyman, sends Jey out to "take care of it." Kevin Owens tells Roman Reigns that he doesn't fear him and will give everything he has to become Universal Champion again. We then see the ambush attack, when Uso struck Owens with the chair. Uso looked to do an Uso Splash onto KO through a table set up in the ring, but KO recovered quickly and took Uso down. KO eventually hit the pop-up powerbomb on Uso through the table. We see KO next backstage, looking for Roman. Roman finds KO first and beat the crap out of KO, then addressed Owens' wife and kids at home, imploring them to talk some sense into their daddy before Reigns takes the food off their table.

In the Ring Promo: Kevin Owens

Michael Cole & Corey Graves welcome us to the ThunderDome at Tropicana Fields. Ladders surround the ring and line the ramp as do tables and folded chairs. Kevin Owens makes his way out to the ring and calls out Roman Reigns. Reigns doesn't come out, so Owens wants to address some things. He spoke to his family this week, and told them not to watch their match at TLC under any circumstance. He tells us that it's not because of what Owens thinks Roman will do to him; he's afraid of how his family will think of, and what they'll see when they look at, Owens Sunday after what he does to Roman. Kevin goes on, saying that a few weeks ago he heard Roman telling Jey Uso that Roman cared how his sons looked at him. He has some bad news for Roman--he says that Roman's kids know that their dad is a hypocrite. He points out that Roman jumped him from behind and uses his own family members as pawns. He tells Roman that he's not the head of the table, he's a coward.
Paul Heyman appears on the screen. Heyman tells Owens that he's a masochist, as he's back for more after what Roman did to him last week. Heyman assures Owens that Roman Reigns is a sadist, especially when it comes to putting the beat down on Owens. Heyman calls Owens a martyr, accusing him of being willing to pay any sacrifice to leave as the champion. And that makes him a dangerous opponent per Heyman. Heyman says that Kevin Owens needs to be taken out and eradicated. Owens cuts him off and says that he's tired of this and if Roman Reigns won't come to him, he'll go to Roman Reigns. He walks off back stage as Heyman stares off camera, and we go to break.

Backstage: Kevin Owens Hunts Roman Reigns

Adam Pearce and Kevin Owens are walking backstage. Pearce is pleading with Kevin Owens to calm down and just wait til this Sunday. Suddenly, Roman's theme plays and KO watches on the screen as...

In the Ring Promo: Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman

Roman Reigns makes his way out to the ring with Paul Heyman to a loud chorus of boos. Owens continues to watch from the back, shaking his head. Roman gets on the mic. "Kevin, I don't want to hurt you, I don't want to hurt your family. But you're running around here, and you're telling the whole world that I'm a bad guy. See, I'm not a bad guy. I'm just doing the things you have to do to be the guy. Something you just don't understand, its above your pay grade, its beyond the level you're at. Stay in your lane. As a matter of fact, I'm going to show you that I'm a good guy. I'm going to give you the same chance, I'm going to give you the same opportunity I gave my own flesh and blood. Acknowledge me. Acknowledge me as your tribal chief. Acknowledge me as the head of your family table. Then we're all good. But if you don't...if you just can't, I'm gonna (injure) you. You won't make it to TLC, hell you won't make it out of here tonight. So get your ass out here and tell me the words that I want to hear." Reigns wants an apology. Out comes Kevin Owens but is ambushed by Jey Uso from behind on the ramp! Uso and Owens fight on the floor. Reigns comes over and helps Uso beat Owens repeatedly outside the ring. They continue to take turns beating on Owens for a couple of minutes, despite several WWE officials imploring Reigns to stop, such as Jamie Noble, Adam Pearce, and that ginger dude. Reigns finally stops and slowly makes his way up the ramp with his entourage as Owens tries to regain his footing to pursue but can't. Up next after this break: our tag team championship match!

Backstage w/ Roman Reigns, Jey Uso & Paul Heyman

Uso is fired up, exclaiming repeatedly that Owens understands now. Reigns tells Uso that Owens doesn't understand it at all and as he's a threat, he wants Jey Uso to end him and take him out tonight.

Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits(c) vs Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode

Our champions, the Street Profits, make their way out as blue solo cups rain from the ceiling. Ziggler and Roode make their way out in matching black leather jackets, and blue tights. We see Clark Duke (the Office, the Croods, etc) with a nice 70's porn 'stache and hairdo giving his thoughts on who the best tag team should be when the Slammys happen.
The match starts and both teams collide in the ring. The Street Profits hit a double dropkick to Ziggler & Roode. Roode rolls out and Angelo Dawkins heads out, leaving Montez Ford to attempt a cover on Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler kicks out. Ford with a suplex to drop Ziggler, then kips up. Montez Ford goes up top but Ziggler recovers and catches him climbing. Ziggler gets Ford on the apron and attempts to suplex him into the ring. Twice, Ford blocks it. Ford slugs Ziggler with a right to knock him back and down. Ford goes up top again, ready to fly high--but Roode runs along the apron and shoves him off! We go to the break with Ford rolling in pain outside the ring.
We return from the break to see Ziggler controlling Ford. Ziggler sends Ford into the corner and tags in Roode. Roode whips Ziggler into the corner, hard splashing Ford. Roode takes Ford down and attempts a cover. Roode stomps away at Ford, then places a knee on the back of Ford's skull and uses the bottom rope to pull himself down and apply more pressure as the ref warns him. Roode with a hard chop to Ford, and takes Ford back to the heel corner. Ziggler tags in. Ziggler taunts Ford; Ford takes a desperate wide swing, completely missing. Ziggler dropkicks Ford down and covers for a two. Ziggler applies a prone waist lock, working on Ford's previously-injured ribs. Ziggler locks an arm around Ford's waist and ties an arm up. Ford inches his way across the mat, heading towards Angelo Dawkins as the digital crowd claps to cheer him on. Unfortunately, Ziggler takes Ford back to the corner and tags in Roode.
Roode takes Ford down and attempts a cover, then tags Ziggler back in. They're doing a great job at cutting the ring in half and utilizing quick tags to keep fresh. Ziggler taunts Ford, yelling for him to tag his partner. Ziggler drops Ford and locks in a side waist lock. Ford powers to his feet and Ziggler wraps him up from behind. Ford powers the grasp away, turns and eats a kick from Ziggler that drops Ford again. Ziggler charges Ford, but Ford pops up Ziggler over the ropes and to the outside! Robert Roode comes in and tries to keep Ford from reaching Dawkins. Montez makes the hot tag, though, and Angelo Dawkins hits the ring with speed and brutality, shoulder tackling Roode. Dawkins slams Ziggler on his face; Dawkins with a kick to Roode followed up by a splash on Dolph. Dawkins sends Ziggler out and tackles Roode down as the digital crowd goes wild with "we want the smoke" chants! Dawkins and Roode lock up and Roode goes for the Glorious DDT but Dawkins shoves out of it. Ziggler tags back in and runs at Roode, who pops Dolph up, who hits the Famouser! He only picks up a two! Dawkins hits a desperate slam and lays out Dolph, then dives over to make the hot tag to Ford. Ford immediately goes up top and hits his twenty-foot frog splash, landing on Ziggler. Ford rolls in pain, apparently re-injuring his ribs from the impact. Ford covers but Roode breaks it up. Roode's sent outside and Ziggler's taken down and pinned for the win.
Your Winners and STILL Smackdown Tag Team Champions, the Street Profits!

After the Match: Lil' Natch Snaps

Ziggler and Roode get in the face of Charles Robinson, aka Lil' Natch's. They yell at him that they should be the champions and continue to back him up into the corner. Lil' Natch has had enough, and begins yelling at them to back off, that he's doing his damn job, and continues to yell for a good minute.

Backstage: Kevin Owens Hunts Roman Reigns, Part II

We cut to the back and find Kevin Owens stumble-walking with Adam Pearce again, as Pearce tries to talk sense into Owens who's looking for Reigns again. And, again, Kevin Owens is ambushed by Jey Uso with a steel chair. Uso yells for Owens to stay down as he beats him, then runs off. Owens gets to a wall and gets to his feet but can't stand upright. Adam Pearce checks on him as we go to break.

Backstage Interview: Bianca Belair

Kayla Braxton welcomes Bianca Belair. She asks Belair about Bayley's self-proclaimed role model status. Belair scoffs at it. Belair says that she sees Bayley as the standard based on her accolades there. She says tonight she's going to S-H-I-N-E.

Tag Team Match: the Riott Squad vs Billie Kay & Mystery Partner

Riott Squad are already in the ring. We're reminded that Billie Kay wanted another shot at them. We see a clip from previously in the night when Liv Morgan talked Ruby Riott into accepting Billie Kay's challenge. Billie Kay comes out and holds up her resume, claiming that she's a seasoned ring announcer and she'll be announcing her tag team partner for tonight--a second-generation wrestler, Tamina! Tamina marches down to the ring with Billie Kay, who chases after her and holds up an 8x10 glossy photo of herself.
The bell rings and we start things off with Tamina and Ruby. Ruby attempts an early roll-up but only gets a two. Tamina takes Ruby down, clubbing her and stunning the leader of the Riott Squad. Tamina lets Ruby up a bit then punches her down. She yells "she ain't good" to Liv as she taunts her. Tamina tries to pull Ruby up, but Ruby throws a few punches. Ruby tries to fight back. Billie Kay tags herself in as Tamina hits a big Samoan Drop on Ruby. Tamina covers but is told by the ref that she's not legal. Kay comes in and tries to cover, but Riott kicks out. Riott makes her way to Morgan, tagging her in. The Riott Squad both attack Tamina and send her out of the ring, then work together to double team Billie Kay and pick up the win in a short match.
Your Winners, the Riott Squad!

Carmella's Champagne Toast

We return to some cheesy 70's inspired music as Carmella's sommelier (NXT's Akeem Young) makes sure that everything is set up in the ring. We get a Progressive Match Flo that recaps Carmella's match with Sasha Banks last week, that saw the Boss retain her Smackdown championship. Afterwards, the sommelier attempted to pull Banks off Carmella. She hit him with the backstabber, but that opened her up to an attack by Carmella. Carmella sprayed champagne all over a fallen Sasha. We cut back to the ring. Sommelier (pronounced somali-ay, like Somalia with a strong A) has several bottles and glasses set up and ready, and awaits Carmella who finally comes down tot he ring wearing a diamond choker and casual wear.
Carmella sings "'tis the season to drink bubbly." She tells us that she's had her Sommelier here prepare a tasting so she can choose the perfect champagne for after her victory at TLC on Sunday. She tells us that she knows some of us sitting at home might be questioning if she's celebrating too early; she tells us those sitting at home, on their used futons, who can't even afford the champagne she has, don't matter. She continues to berate the audience--she's back to that version of heel Carmella again. She throws shade at Banks, and points out that this is the longest that Sasha Banks has ever held on to a championship and this is uncharted waters for her. She mocks cracking a bottle of champagne over Banks' back last week as the crowd boos. She says Banks is drowning in the shadow of her own expectations and last week, she saw herself losing so she intentionally got herself disqualified. And that very reason is why Carmella knows she already has Banks beat, and that reason is why she can celebrate tonight. She says that Banks' entire existence is based off being the very best. The Boss, the Blueprint, the standard of WWE can't get herself disqualified this time. She says that Banks will be so angry that she'll want to rip Carmella apart, and she'll have to fight her own instinct as she fights Carmella. And that's a fight no one can win. She claims that when she beats Sasha Banks this Sunday, Banks may break because who is Sasha Banks if she's not the boss? She asks who is Sasha Banks if she's not the best? Carmella says its sad because that's a question that not even Sasha Banks knows the answer to, and that's why Sasha Banks becomes unglued around Carmella.
Carmella is ready to taste champagne. She tastes the first and says it "tastes cheap and frantic, kinda like Sasha Banks!" Sasha Banks' music plays, and Carmella sends Sommelier up the ramp to confront her when she comes out. Banks appears behind Carmella in the ring. They stare at each other, then she throws a lil' bit of the bubbly into Carmella's face. Banks locks the Bank Statement on, but Sommelier hits the ring and pulls her off. As she's distracted, Carmella breaks another bottle of champagne over Banks to end the segment.

Backstage: Kevin Owens Hunts Roman Reigns, Part III

Kevin Owens is backstage with a medical personnel, who's icing his shoulder or attending to it. Out of nowhere, Jey Uso attacks Owens again, beating him around the room and into a table. Uso runs off, leaving Owens down on the floor. Up next: the Sami Awards.

Match: Otis w/ Chad Gable vs Shinsuke Nakamura

We return from break and out comes Otis, accompanied by Chad Gable. We're shown clips from the tag match last week between Otis & Chad Gable versus Shinsuke Nakamura. During the match, Gable tagged himself in when Otis was going for the win, and cost them the victory. Afterwards, Gable explains that he's teaching Otis to win by teaching him what not to do. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro make their way down to the ring for this singles competition match.
Bell rings and both men lock up. Otis escapes a rear waistlock and holds to Shinsuke's right arm, cranking it. Shinsuke reverses the arm hold, applying pressure to the big man. Otis powers out of it and slams Nakamura down. Otis pursues Shinsuke on the apron, and Nakamura stuns him with a big kick. Nakamura runs along the outside and hits a big boot to Otis' head, which hangs over the middle rope. Nakamura goes back inside and kicks Otis hard, mocking him. Otis hulks up, yelling "c'mon" before should blocking Nakamura. Otis runs Nakamura over, sending Shinsuke flying. Otis splashes Shinsuke in the corner as Gable coaches him on. Otis starts to do the Caterpillar but Gable gets on the apron and yells for Otis not to do the Caterpillar, and instead go for a suplex. Nakamura uses the distraction and rolls Otis up--but Otis escapes. Otis with a big suplex, followed by Otis hitting his own version of a Vader Bomb and picks up the win!
Your Winner, Otis!

Backstage: Sami Zayn & the Sami Awards Preparation

Sami Zayn asks a random WWE tech if he polished the Sami Award trophies on a podium before them. The man shakes his head no, and Sami calls him an idiot. Sami heads off to get some polish. Big E walks up and picks up the envelopes that announce the winners for each category, and laughs.

Happy Holidays From the WWE

We get a weird...something...with Drew McIntyre in the ring. An animated "2020" done as a green slime monster and voiced by Braun Strowman comes into the ring and talks smack to McIntyre. We then see McIntyre telling 2020 that's enough, and he hits the Claymore kick. We see several superstars hitting finishers on 2020, including Roman Reigns and Nia Jax. 2020 isn't defeated so an animated "2021" hits the ring and defeats 2020. We're then wished happy holidays by Michael Cole, who called the "action" in that "match." I don't write their script, I just cover it, brother.

Backstage w/ Chad Gable & Otis

They're celebrating backstage. Gable asks Otis why he didn't hit the Caterpillar, as he had the chance. Otis tells Gable he listened to Gable because he thought it was a test. Gable says that it was a test, and Otis shouldn't do what Gable says--he should do what Gable means for him to do. He then tells Otis to hydrate and we go to the ring.

The First Annual Sami Awards

The Slammy Awards are this Wednesday but, in protest of the "biased" Slammy Awards, Sami Zayn is holding the first annual Sami Awards. Sami welcomes us from a podium set up at the top of the ramp, with his IC title on display as well as a Sami Award trophy, and begins disparaging the Slammy Awards, and says that they've lost their luster as they've become about rewarding whomever the corporation wants. Sami says the Sami Awards aren't going to be like that. He sends us to a video package to recap 2020, and it's essentially a video promo showing Sami winning the Intercontinental Title, attacking Hardy after Sami returned from injury, defeating Hardy for the IC title (which Hardy won when Sami was out injured). During the whole video, the narrator praises Sami as a fighter for the people, a "pillar for humanity." We cut back to the ring.
Sami says the first category is "Comeback of the Year." He gets a drum roll, opens the envelope and reads that the winner is...Sami Zayn! He acts shocked that he won. He sets the trophy aside. He says that the next Sami Award is for the "Match of the Year." He states that there multiple matches worthy of it but only one can win. The winner is...Sami Zayn's victory at Clash of Champions. He acts surprised and says he's not gonna lie, he hoped to win that one and he's making history tonight. He says our final category is "Superstar of the Year." The Sami goes to....Big E? He looks around shocked as Big E comes out and claims his Sami Award. He shoves Sami back and says he wants to thank Notre Dame football in advance for covering the spread, and also he'd be remiss if-- Sami cuts him off and claims there's been a mix-up as the Superstar of the Year is...Big E attacks Zayn, punching him hard in the side. Big E strikes Zayn a few more times, sending him down the ramp. Big E then thanks everyone and slams a trophy down, breaking it as Sami yells at him.

Backstage w/ Kayla Braxton & Bayley

Kayla says that the EST of WWE doesn't consider Bayley as a role model, but as a measuring stick. Bayley says that it's nice to see someone saying something nice about her, but that doesn't mean she's going to take it easy on Bianca tonight. Bayley says that she was the captain of her basketball team, but she doesn't go around bragging about how damn good she is just because Bianca ran track in high school. Bayley says that she's going to put Bianca on the match, and we head to our main event!

Main Event Match: Bayley vs Bianca Belair

Bianca Belair comes out first, swinging her hair as the digital crowd goes crazy for her. After the break, Bayley makes her way out for our main event of the night. Bayley makes her way out wearing her "Ding Dong! Hello!" shirt, and stops halfway down. She yells "watch this!" to the cameraman, stretches her arms to the roof and pyro goes off from the ceiling. She makes her way into the ring and we start our main event!
Bayley shoves Bianca and yells "that's what I'm talking about, I'm better!" Bianca takes exception at it and charges in. Bayley stomps her foot and sends her out onto the apron, then talks more smack. Bianca back in and charges. Bayley leap frogs. Bianca rebounds and knocks Bayley to the apron. Bianca comes in to attack but the veteran former champion counters. Bayley then gloats on the apron, and Bianca takes her down. Bianca takes it into the ring and slams Bayley down. Biance attempts to chain together some offense, but Bayley slides outside and catches Bianca coming out. Bayley slams Bianca's arm down hard on the edge of the ring, causing the EST to cry out in pain. Bayley attacks the arm again as Bianca rolls outside and we go to break.
Back from the break and Bayley's still in control. She sends Belair outside the ring. She walks over and pulls Belair up, telling Cole "Look at me Michael, I'm the ER of (the WWE)!" Graves tells Michael Cole to pay attention to Bayley. Bayley spends too much time with cockiness and Belair slams Bayley's face into the ring. They take the action inside. Belair fires off several speedy jabs then pulls Bayley up in a long stalling suplex, then immediately kips up and blows kisses. Bayley is up, but Belair takes her down with an over the shoulder karate takedown. Bianca hits a standing 360 and covers for a two. Belair hits another suplex and picks up another two. Belair drags Bayley into the corner, then climbs up top. Bianca Belair, looking to fly high like her husband Montez Ford, but Bayley is up in enough time to stop her ascent with a strike. Bayley pulls Bianca into a rope-assisted DDT pose, then dips down and stands up--mocking Belair's strength. She takes too long and Belair escapes. Bayley is sent into the top turnbuckle. Belair hits a big spinebuster and picks up a close two.
Bayley's to her feet and attempts to use the ropes to get a leverage pin over Belair, but the ref catches her. Bianca converts it into a roll-up but Bayley escapes. Bayley attempts to hit a running grapple, but Belair catches her and attempts a standing pin, only getting two. Belair hangs on and lifts Bayley up, still on her arm, and bombs her down! Belair is ready to pin; Bayley rakes the eyes when the ref is out of position, hits a new finisher (not yet named) then rolls up Belair for the win!
Your Winner, Bayley!

In the Ring: Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman & Jey Uso, Again

Roman's music plays and out walks the head of the table, his advocate, and his personal hitman. Reigns hoists up his belt and we're told he'll deliver his final message to Kevin Owens. After a brief break, we return to the ring. The digital crowd boos and the ThunderDome audience gives him thumbs down. Reigns tells us that he's been wracking his brain, trying to understand why--why?--if you had the opportunity to be in the ring with Reigns, to be on the "island of relevancy" and to be in a championship match with Roman Reigns in a main event at a pay per view, and the chance for a story to tell his kids' kids' kids' kids' kids' kids' (yes, he said it that often), Reigns just doesn't understand--
He's cut off by Kevin Owens who barely limps down to the ring. Owens hits the ring. Uso lays him out with a superkick. Uso starts throwing steel chairs into the ring, and Roman Reigns uses one to beat Owens and to push down on Owens' neck. Uso gets in the ring with a table and sets it up as Roman hits him with a chair again. Roman tells Owens that he told him to stay down, and whips Owens into Uso who pops Owens up and slams him through the table. Reigns tells Uso to drag over the other table he set up in the ring. Reigns directs and Uso follows orders. Reigns talks down to Owens, telling him that he had the opportunity of a lifetime but instead chose to piss Roman off. Reigns picks up Owens and puts him through the table with a Samoan Drop. Uso goes outside and gets a third table, sliding it inside as Reigns slams pieces of broken table down on Owens. He buries Owens in a heap of broken tables and chairs. He throws the table Uso slid into the ring, on top of Owens, as well as a pair of ladders that Uso also slid in the ring. Uso continues to throw steel chairs into the ring, half a dozen, more. Roman grabs a chair as does Uso and they begin to smack the pile of rubble on top of Owens. The throw one more ladder on him, then exit the ring as the digital crowd loudly chants "you suck!" Reigns walks up the ramp, entourage in tow. They head off to the back. We cut to the back and Kayla Braxton walks up to ask if she can have a word. Reigns watches Owens on the screen beside them as he climbs out of the rubble. Reigns never gets to answer Braxton. Reigns and company walk off as Owens sits up in the rubble and gets on the mic. Owens tells Reigns that nothing he and his family can do to Owens will keep Owens down. At TLC, Owens is going to take the Universal title or he's going to die trying. He sits in a chair as his music plays us off.

In Closing

That's a wrap for our broadcast! We only had four matches--we had more Roman Reigns/Kevin Owens segments than matches!--but they were pretty decent. Otis & Gable is an interesting pairing and entertaining, and Bayley & Belair put on a great show.
Don't forget that TLC is this Sunday and we'll have you covered on live results right here on Rajah.com! One week 'til Christmas, time to cue the greatest story ever told--Die Hard.
