WWE Friday Night SmackDown Live Results (6/25/2021) -- ThunderDome III (Yuengling Center), Tampa, FL

Previously on SmackDown...

We open our program with video clips from last week's Hell in a Cell Universal Championship match between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Rey put on his best effort but Roman reigned supreme. After defeating Rey, Roman then sought to punish the Cruiserweight legend, choking him in a submission again before hoisting his belt high. Michael Cole asks, "how do you stop Roman Reigns?"

Backstage: Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman

We cut to the back where Roman's seated in his usual dressing room. Heyman whispers in his ear that "they're acknowledging you from their hospital bed." Jimmy Uso walks up, and Roman asks where Jey is. Jimmy claims he's sent a thousand texts. He tells Roman that "Main Event" Jey Uso decided not to come to work tonight. Jimmy tells Roman it's going to be fine as he'll step up. Roman questions Jimmy's intentions to be Roman's right hand man. Jimmy steps up to the challenge and states he can do what his brother does. Roman nods, giving him a chance and telling him to "prove it." Jimmy walks off as Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcome us to our program!

In the Ring Promo: SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair

Belair comes out in style, hopping and sparkling down to the ring to the cheers of the digital audience. Belair reminds us that we're three weeks away from leaving the ThunderDome and going "home" (on the road), and we're less than a month from Money in the Bank. She's also excited as she's planning on beating Bayley's butt tonight. She then recaps their match this past Sunday in the Hell in a Cell match for the SmackDown Women's Championship, listing some of the dirty tactics Bayley employed. She holds up her belt and says that it doesn't matter, though, because she left Sunday with the title. She refers to Bayley as a bully and wants us to let Belair's SmackDown Women's Championship remind us that we're more powerful than the bullies. She then exclaims, "Ding, dong, the witch is dead!"
Seth Rollins' music cuts her off and he makes his way down to the ring. He's noticeably not wearing his black glove. He says they're out there to celebrate because they both overcame adversity at Hell in a Cell. He then claims that Belair didn't have much to overcome, but Rollins did. He claims he dominated Cesaro at the Cell. He then states that he and Belair need to talk, as Belair--in Rollins' opinion--barely squeaked by with a win over Bayley. He heavily implies its a fluke, but then says there's no reason not to celebrate. He asks her for a high five. Belair reminds Rollins that he's teaming with Bayley tonight. He laughs and exclaims that Bayley's going to "beat the holy hell out of you...you won't be able to high five then." Bayley comes out on the hot mic. She's upset with all the "bragging" Bianca's doing, claiming the people don't need or deserve that. Belair tells Bayley to stop talking and come to the ring so she can show Bayley what kind of champion she (Belair) is. Rollins laughs, telling Bianca to "Be careful what you ask for!". Bayley enters the ring and gets in Belair's face. She eyes her up and down and says "I still see the same old pathetic Bianca Be-loser!" Rollins laughs until Belair attacks her. Rollins causes a distraction, allowing Bayley to take the upper. Cesaro comes running out to help his partner. Cesaro throws Rollins out the ring; Bayley throws Belair out the ring. Bayley confronts Cesaro, yelling at him that this is all his fault as he ruined her show. He then assists Belair, as she hits the ring, into dropkicking Bayley down. We head to break with our heroes standing tall. This match is up next!

Mixed Tag Team Match: SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair & Cesaro vs Bayley & Seth Rollins

Back from the break. Our competitors are all set up, and we're starting with the performers presenting as men. Rollins and Cesaro go after each other, with Cesaro immediately using a standing switch to wrap up Rollins and hit a pair of suplexes. Rollins throws a fist; Cesaro returns with a big uppercut and whips him into the corner. Cesaro charges the corner but Rollins gets a foot up. Rollins comes off the middle rope but Cesaro catches him with a big backbreaker. Rollins tags in Bayley, so Belair has to come in. Belair easily handles Bayley for a few moments before Belair tags Cesaro back in. Cesaro briefly has control until Rollins drops Cesaro face-first into the middle turnbuckle. Three weeks from tonight will be the first SmackDown in front of a live audience in over a year and a half. Yay. McAfee seems especially stoked. Meanwhile, Rollins slows the pace with a lengthy headlock on Cesaro. Cesaro attempts to power to his feet, and Rollins rides his back. Rollins with a series of chops. Cesaro fires back with European Uppercuts. Whip to Rollins; Rollins comes off the ropes with a back, dropping Cesaro, then rebounds off the opposite ropes to punt-kick Cesaro in the small of the back. Rollins pulls Cesaro up and performs a running assisted knee to the midsection, followed by another. Rollins yells for Bayley to "watch this" and attempts a suplex. Cesaro blocks; Rollins tries again, and again Cesaro blocks. Cesaro counters, looking for a suplex, but Seth wiggles free and wraps Cesaro up from behind. Cesaro with the standing switch and drops Rollins. Belair's tagged in, so in comes Bayley. Belair hits the ring on fire, dropping Bayley repeatedly and kipping-up multiple times. Belair with a big driver and a pin attempt. The action spills outside and Bayley catches Belair running, popping her up and onto the barricade. Bayley sends Belair into the steel steps/corner of the exterior ring, dropping the champion hard as we go to break!
Back from the break. Bayley has Belair in a headlock as we return, and we get replays of the champ's shoulder connecting with the ring post just before the break. Bayley focuses her attack on the left shoulder, using a single arm rear lock. Bayley attempts a pin, then returns to attacking the left shoulder and arm. Belair fights back with a few fists and easily tosses Bayley over her head in a desperate suplex. Bianca makes the hot tag and Cesaro streaks over, kicking Rollins off the apron. Cesaro follows him down and hits another uppercut at ringside! Cesaro beats Rollins along the ringside then into the ring. Cesaro heads up top and dives, covering for a close two. Rollins attempts to fight back and runs right into the King of Swing! Cesaro stops after a few circles as Bayley starts to enter the ring, distracting him. Rollins attempts to capitalize on this but Cesaro hits a springboard uppercut to lay out Rollins. Bayley hits the ring and leaps at Cesaro, but he catches her. Rollins attacks Cesaro while his hands are full. Rollins covers Cesaro for a two, but Belair makes the save. Rollins is pissed as Belair laughs and smiles, mocking him. Rollins yells that they're exactly "whats wrong with this place." Cesaro uses this time to recover and connects with more uppercuts. Seth tags in Bayley, though she doesn't seem happy about it. Belair and Bayley clash in the ring as the men brawl at the ringside. Bianca attempts a roll-up and Cesaro prevents Rollins from getting in. Belair with a two. Belair looks for the Kiss of Death (KOD) but Rollins runs into/bumps into Belair, causing her to drop Bayley! Bayley quickly attacks the champion and rolls her up, picking up the win!
Your Winners, Seth Rollins & Bayley!

Backstage: Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman

Jimmy is backstage, standing outside Roman Reigns' locker room door. Heyman approaches him and points out that if Jey doesn't want to be Roman's right-hand man, well then they can make him into "Main Event" Jimmy Uso. Heyman tells Jimmy that Roman needs a main man. Uso is excited about the match, but Heyman cautions him to win...or else.

The Coronation of the One True King

When we return from break, the ring's set up with a red carpet, a beautiful throne, and we're ready to acknowledge our one true king, Shinsuke Nakamura. We get a Progressive Match Flo, recapping the game of thrones that was resolved last week when the King of Strong Style defeated Corbin Lannister in trial-by-combat, capturing the crown. When we return to the ring, the crown is on a rotating podium in the ring and Rick Boogz is in the ring. Boogz excitedly calls out the one true king, Shinsuke Nakamura, and plays the lead riff to his theme as the King makes his way down to the ring in a royal white outfit. Nakamura makes his way down to the ring in style, as usual, and Pat McAfee once again reminds us how much he loves his job as the camera catches him on top of the announcer's table, all but dancing excitedly. In the back, Kayla Braxton is with Corbin, watching as the events unfold. Corbin cries and seems to imply he may quit.

Backstage: WWE Officials Pearce & Deville and Seth Rollins

The two officials are, uh, "jamming out" to King Nakamura's theme when Rollins walks up. Rollins addresses Roman's upcoming address later tonight, and knows that Rollins needs a new competitor. Rollins tells Pearce that he can list the long list of his accolades and makes a case to be Roman's next challenger. Pearce tells him it's a bit early for that, but both officials agree to take Rollins' case under consideration.

Video Package: Otis

We get a short video package of the recent conflict between the Alpha Academy and the Street Profits. The focus of the video is how Otis is a "dangerous, dangerous machine." Otis' attack on Montez Ford is the reason Ford's out of action.

Money in the Bank Qualifier Match: Big E vs Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews with Commander Azeez

Big E makes his way out and we go to commercials. When we return, McAfee and Cole hype the upcoming UK tour. Apollo Crews comes out with his guardian. The bell rings and we're off. Crews and Big E lock up, pushing back into a corner. Ref forces the break, and both men lock up again--this time pushing back against the ropes. The ref calls for the break. Big E sends Crews outside when breaking but Azeez is there to support his leader. Crews enters the ring and drops Big E to his knees with a stiff kick to the gut and a few strong rights. Big E doesn't stay down long, though, and catches Apollo Crews coming off the ropes and lays him out with a big arm. Big E covers for two. Big E sends Crews into the corner then walks off. Crews attempts to attack Big E from behind, but E's spider-sense must've tingled as he turns in time to connect with a powerful lariat. Big E and the champ fight to the apron. Big E looks for a lift on the apron but Crews blocks with a kick. Apollo Crews impressively hoists Big E on his shoulders, on the apron, and hits a Death Valley Driver on the hard apron! We go to break!
Back from the break. Crews has Big E in a headlock, seated upon the canvas. Crews has been in control the entire break. Big E throws two elbows to gain separation. Crews connects with a standing dropkick, dropping Big E. Crews goes back to working on the neck. Crews stares up at the Money in the Bank cases hanging above the ring, then stomps Big E before returning to working holds to weaken the neck. Big E once again powers to his feet and attempts to escape, but Apollo easily reverses it into a pin attempt. Crews once again latches on to the neck and Big E, once again, powers to his feet so he can, once again, throw elbows into Crews to gain some separation. Crews shuts down the spurt of offense with a suplex and a pin attempt. Crews mocks Big E by doing the "New...Day Rocks" clap and parodies Big E's gyrations. Crews pulls Big E up, setting up the belly-to-belly suplex but Big E is incensed. Big E physically breaks the hold then hits a series of suplexes himself, laying the IC champ out. Big E stands over Crews and does his dance, mocking the champ, before hitting a big splash down on Crews for a close two. Crews with a big right hand that stumbles Big E into the corner. Crews charges right into a Urinage, and counters it into a trio of German Suplexes! McAfee even points out we just did a "Drive through of Suplex City." Big E starts his comeback and puts Crews into a Stretch Muffler submission. Crews can't reach the rope; Commander Azeez pushes the rope from outside the ring, pushing it in to aid Crews in grabbing it. The ref warns Azeez and Crews drops Big E with a step-up high kick. Crews slowly climbs the corner; Big E climbs after, using fists to slow Crews' ascent. Both men struggle at the top, blocking each other's attempted moves with strikes. Crews finally drops down to the apron and hits a step-up high kick again, knocking Big E off the turnbuckles. Crews runs up top and soars through the sky, hitting a Frog Splash and gets a close two. Crews immediately connects with another German Suplex for a close two! Outside the ring, Commander Azeez stalks a recovering Big E. Big E drives Crews down into the floor as the ref counts. At eight, Big E sends Crews into the ring. The ref goes to check on Crews and Azeez shoves Big E back into the barricade to prevent him from entering! The ref catches the Commander, though, and bans him from the ringside. Big E watches from the ring, and Crews rolls him up for a two. Big E pops up and hits the Big Ending out of nowhere to pick up the win and head to his first Money in the Bank ladder match!
Your Winner and Advancing to the Money in the Bank, Big E!

Backstage Interview: Kayla Braxton with Sami Zayn

Zayn is excited and sees himself as the messenger of the universe and its cosmic design, all because he defeated Owens at Hell in a Cell. Braxton asks Zayn if he's concerned because next week, he faces KO in a Money in the Bank Qualifier match. Zayn freaks out, babbling that he's beaten KO and got the justice he deserved. Now they're all trying to stick it to Zayn again, and he warns them that they're messing with the cosmos and karma. He walks off, exclaiming this is the worst week of his life.

Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match Announcement

We return to the ring, where WWE Official Sonya Deville awaits us. We're told by Cole that the entire women's division is on pins and needles as Deville is about to announce the first selection from SmackDown for the Women's Money in the Bank match. We go to break. We return to the ring and Deville's ready to make the announcement. Sonya announces the first entrant as two-time Money in the Bank winner Carmella! Carmella comes down to the ring in a cow-print outfit as the digital crowd is totally dead. Carmella gets on the mic. "Sonya! Thanks for making the obvious choice. But...you guys are mad? Hahaha. But if I could give you one little note, in addition to being a two-time Money in the Bank winner, I'm also the most beautiful woman in all of WWE." She offers Deville another chance to introduce her and out comes Liv Morgan! Morgan wants to make sure she's understanding Carmella--"Declaring yourself as the most 'beautiful woman in all of WWE' gets you a title opportunity?" Morgan points out that she beat "this conceited princess" last week. Morgan states that she belongs in the match way more than Carmella. Carmella laughs at her. "Aw, sweetie! This match is for the real stars. So cute. I mean, look at me, honey, look at me! And...look at you," she says with a sneer to Morgan. Liv slaps Carmella so hard she falls to the mat. Deville gets between the two. Deville tells Liv that's a way to make a statement. Deville tells Liv Morgan to take on Carmella here and now to prove she belongs in the Money in the Bank.

Backstage: Adam Pearce and Sami Zayn

Sami barges in and babbles on at Adam, demanding to know why he has to fight Kevin Owens again when he just beat him. He tells Adam to just give him the Money in the Bank contract and save them all time. Pearce informs him that Zayn is facing Owens next week in a last man standing match. Zayn tells Pearce that he's playing a very dangerous game "not with me...with karma."

Women's Money in the Bank Qualifier Match: Carmella vs Liv Morgan

Back from the break. This match is well underway. Carmella pulls Morgan by the hair outside the ring, and yells at Cole & McAfee to tell her that she's the most beautiful. She takes Morgan into the ring. Morgan reverses a hold and sends Carmella into the turnbuckle with a leg. Carmella quickly takes control back and pounds Morgan in the corner with back elbows as the ref counts and warns. Women's Tag Team Champions Natalya & Tamina are shown backstage in street wear, watching the match, as Carmella attempts a pin fall on Morgan. Carmella yells at Morgan, taunting her, and slaps Morgan disrespectfully. Carmella hits a superkick to a knelt Morgan, catching her right on the chin. Carmella attempts a roll-up but only gets two. Carmella and Morgan spar in the corner, up onto the turnbuckle. Carmella kicks Morgan in the face, stunning her on the top turnbuckle. Carmella uses a headscissors to pull Morgan off the top, rolling her up--but Morgan counters, rolling it further and stealing the win from Carmella!
Your Winner and Advancing to the Women's Money in the Bank, Liv Morgan!

Backstage Interview: Kayla Braxton with Jimmy Uso

Braxton tells Jimmy the pressure is on. Jimmy is ready and tells the camera he hopes Roman's watching as he heads out the gorilla position and down to the ring.

Singles Match: Jimmy Uso vs Dolph Ziggler w/ Robert Roode

Jimmy comes out and we head to break! After the break, the "certified ring general" Dolph Ziggler makes his way out with his Dirty Dawg partner, Roode. After posing in the ring--including Roode doing the Scott Hall double-arm gesture from his nWo days--we get this match underway. Ziggler and Jimmy lock up. Ziggler sends Uso into the rope, but Uso takes him down with a shoulder block and covers for a quick two. Uso mounts and pounds Ziggler, and the veteran scrambles for a rope. Both men lock up again. Ziggler sends Uso into the ropes again, and again Uso runs him over with a shoulder block. Jimmy throws a kick; Ziggler catches the foot but Jimmy counters with a step-up Enziguri for a close two. Ziggler takes control in the ring with a big right. The wily veteran scrapes and drags Uso's face across the ropes before laying him out with a dropkick. Pin attempt, two count. Ziggler wraps his legs around Sousa's waist and applies a rear sleeper hold, prone on the mat. Jimmy gets to a vertical base and gains separation with elbows. Jimmy attempts to run but Ziggler stops him with a hair mat slam. Ziggler goes up top and hits a beautiful diving elbow for a two. Ziggler goes back to working on Uso's neck. Jimmy starts fighting back. Roode attempts to distract and Uso flies, wiping Roode out at ringside! Ziggler with a Zig Zag on an unsuspecting Uso as we head to break! Back from the break. Uso has control and attempts a pin fall. Dolph kicks out at two. Uso goes for a Superkick but Ziggler side-steps it and counters with a Zig Zag! Shoulders down, Uso kicks out at two. Ziggler is perplexed! Both men exchange control as the pace slows. Ziggler attempts another roll-up but Uso counters with a Superkick to a knelt Ziggler and covers, picking up the win to quickly end the match.
Your Winner, "Main Event" Jimmy Uso!

Backstage: Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman and Jimmy Uso

Jimmy comes back to the gorilla position, where Heyman and Reigns are watching, and is happy with his win. He asks Reigns' thoughts. Roman walks off, and Heyman stops Jimmy from following. He tells Jimmy that he did good and heads out because it's time for...

State of the Universal Championship Address

Roman Entrance Tracker: 9:42-9:51pm EST. After a nine-minute entrance/commercial break, Heyman gets on the mic. He refers us to footage that "speaks almost as eloquently as I (Heyman) do." We get another video package showing Reigns and Mysterio's conflict, culminating in the brutal Hell in a Cell match last week. The video is interspersed with clips of Roman beating Rey on numerous occasions and power-bombing/beating Dominik as well as Rey. Back in the arena, the digital crowd loudly chants "Roman sucks!" Heyman tells us that the Head of the Table does not suck. HE tells us that the Fiend got frightened, Strowman got slaughtered, Kevin got KO'd, Edge & Daniel Bryan got pinned and stacked at WrestleMania, and points out Daniel Bryan was man enough to come back for more and got shipped right back out. Cesaro was clobbered, and the Mysterios got launched "literally, figuratively, metaphorically straight to Hell. And their cell is watching Roman Reigns from their hospital beds!" Heyman points out that in less than a year, Roman has wiped out the entire division and our Tribal Chief is going to have to change course and do something that's never, ever been done on network television before. Heyman tells us they have no other choice as "there's no one left!"
Roman gets on the mic. Before he can speak...Kjetill Flatnose Edge returns! Edge makes his way straight to the ring and attacks the Universal Champion! Edge beats Roman outside the ring, then along the ringside in front of the announcer's table. Edge is enraged. Edge sends Reigns into the ring. As Edge himself enters, Roman connects with a Superman Punch! Roman heads out of the ring to grab a chair and returns. Edge spears Roman when he enters the ring! Edge sets up a chair under Roman's head and retrieves a second chair. Before he can go for the ConChairTo, Jimmy Uso makes the save! Roman and Heyman flee up the ramp. Edge yells into the camera "What do you want, Roman? Where you at?" Edge is apparently unaware Roman is standing up the ramp to his right. Cole excitedly tells us that Edge has the attention of the Universal Champion and we close to Edge's Alter Bridge theme.

In Closing

Alright, folks, that does it for the night. Quick recap is linked at the top. May you all have a wonderful, cool weekend. Stay frosty and stay safe out there, y'all. See you Monday Night for Raw!
