WWE NXT 2.0 Quick Recap for December 28, 2021

Matches Tonight: 6 (42 minutes, roughly)
  • Singles Match: Odyssey Jones vs Grayson Waller. Waller picked up the win after a decent match. 8:07-8:15pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Harland vs Andre Chase. Chase filled in for Kendrick. Harland won due to referee stoppage after dismantling Chase brutally in seconds. 8:40-8:41pm EST.
  • Singles Debut match: Tiffany Stratton vs Fallon Henley. As expected, Stratton picked up the win. Stratton has a unique powerhouse-meets-gymnast playbook of moves. 8:49-8:51pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Solo Sikoa vs Santos Escobar w/ Legado Del Fantasma. Solid match between the two stars that saw Sikoa pick up the win and remain undefeated. 9:15-9:28pm EST.
  • Singles Match: Von Wagner vs Malik Blade. Short match that was mostly Wagner the entire time. Wagner picked up the win. Afterwards, he attempted to beat Blade but Edris Enofe made the save by dragging Blade out of the ring and to safety. 9:40-9:44pm EST.
  • Special Stipulation Tag Team Main Event Match: Io Shirai & Kay Lee Ray vs Cora Jade & Raquel Gonzalez. Rose suggested, earlier in the night, that Shirai & KLR replace Toxic Attraction as previously billed for tonight. Instead, she offered for the winning team to challenge her in the triple-threat title match next week at New Year's Evil. Jade & Gonzalez won, guaranteeing their previously-announced spots in next week's triple-threat championship match. At the end, Jade and Gonzalez had a bit of conflict despite pulling off the victory. 9:54-10:06pm EST.
Miscellaneous Non-Match Segments of Note:
  • Grayson Speaks: Waller opened our show and bragged about himself. The crowd pummeled him with insulting chants until Odyssey Jones arrived, filling in for an injured Dexter Lumis in his match against Waller. 8:00-8:07pm EST
  • Styles to Appear: Styles will appear next week at New Year's Evil to confront Grayson Waller.
  • Debut: Tiffany Stratton, fka bodybuilder Jessica Woynilko, made her debut after weeks of build-up.
  • MSK and Imperium: MSK came out, addressing the two-month absence since their last match in which they lost their tag titles. They called out Imperium, both teams exchanged words, and both WALTER and Riddle added to the feud via Xoom split-screen. Riddle then challenged the Imperium trio to take on MSK and himself, and Imperium accepted. They clash next week! 8:21-8:27pm EST.
  • Unification Match Contract Signing: North American Champion Carmelo Hayes and Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong signed the contract, making their title unification bout official. The segment was filled with both men trading verbal barbs before signing the contract. 8:59-9:07pm EST
  • New Year's Evil Card: Next week's special episode of NXT 2.0, New Year's Evil, has set it's card! NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa defends against Bron Breakker; North American Champion Carmelo Hayes takes on Cruiserweight Champion Roderick Strong in a Unification match; Imperium faces MSK & Riddle in six-man tag action. Grayson Waller and AJ Styles will have a confrontation, and Mandy Rose will defend her NXT Women's Championship against Cora Jade & Raquel Gonzalez.

It's worth noting that tonight featured approximately 42 minutes of wrestling and only 42-46 minutes of miscellaneous stuff. Nearly 50% of the program was wrestling--a high for WWE and NXT televised episodes in 2021.
