Previously on NXT...
We open with a video package recapping the feuds building up to tonight's Street Fight women's tag match, Swerve and Ruff's Falls Count Anywhere match, and some random shots of the rest of the roster. We cut to the arena, where Tom Phillips is in hiding from the mafia under the name "Vic Joseph", and get ready for our first match.
Falls Count Anywhere Match: Leon Ruff vs Isaiah "Swerve" Scott
Leon Ruff is out first as commentator and Legend Beth Phoenix discusses his strengths. Out next is Swerve, whom commentator Wade Barrett seems to support. Swerve takes his own sweet time taking off his jacket. The ref says something to him then starts the match. Ruff charges as Swerve's back is to him, but at the last moment Swerve lifts his right knee and catches Ruff right across the jaw. Swerve takes his time playing with Ruff, shoving him down easily on the mat. Swerve blocks Ruff's weak attempt to mount an offense. Ruff sends Swerve out of the ring. Ruff goes for the Suicide Dive but Swerve catches him in a Fireman's Carry and drives his neck into the metal grate of the ramp leading to the back. Swerve uses the metal to torture Ruff, rubbing his face back and forth against the grates. After a few moments, Swerve takes it back into the ring.
Swerve tosses Ruff around the ring as his frustration grows with every failed pin attempt. Swerve tosses Ruff to the outside and follows him. Swerve finds a tool box beneath the ring and launches it at Ruff's head; Ruff barely ducks as the box impacts the barricade and showers tools around. We're in picture-in-picture commercial break. While Ric Flair tells us Car Shield is super duper cool, Swerve continues to beat Ruff up the ramp and into the back. Swerve throws and beats Ruff into a locker area and rams him into them. Swerve stands on Ruff's face in a pin attempt. Swerve is all smiles and laughs as he sends Ruff into a plexiglass door. Ruff hits the door roughly before roughly hitting the ground. Swerve sits next to him, laughing and mocking him, and slapping Ruff's face. Ruff attempts to fight back but only gets a few hits in before Swerve takes control. Swerve kicks and follows a crawling Ruff back to the entrance ramp. Swerve talks into the camera but Queen of the South is too busy talking to hear what he says. Swerve puts on a lazy neck wrench as we return from break.
Ruff finally gets a few more shots in as he and Swerve reposition into the ring. Swerve sets Ruff up for a middle rope Crucifix Bomb but Ruff counters it mid-move, sending Swerve out of the ring. Swerve attempts to come in but Ruff begins to unleash fists. Ruff slides down between Swerve's legs, looking for a Powerbomb. Swerve, having experienced this move before, swings his right fist down hard but catches nothing but hard apron as Ruff moves out of the way! Ruff leaps up and connects with a Hurricanrana off the apron to the outside! Ruff is up, Swerve is up. Both men battle around the ring as the crowd chants for Leon Ruff. Swerve charges Ruff, who dodges and sends Swerve into the steel steps. Ruff uses the toolbox at ringside to smash Swerve. Ruff takes it inside and locks in a left knee submission. Swerve escapes after long, agonizing moments. Ruff is ready, though, and runs up the turnbuckles to hit a springboard cutter! Swerve smartly rolls out of the ring, only to have Ruff streak up the turnbuckles again and hit a cutter on Swerve outside the ring! Ruff has victory in hand and climbs the entrance display setup and dives after Swerve but is caught by AJ (not Styles), who's now part of Swerve's entourage. Swerve takes it in the ring and puts away Ruff, picking up the final win in their now-ended feud.
Your Winner, Isaiah "Swerve" Scott"
Backstage: William Regal, Scarlett, Austin Theory and Johnny Gargano
Gargano and Theory walk backstage as Gargano claims Regal has been dodging his calls. They burst into the office, where Regal sits with Scarlett who's wearing a very cleavage-heavy top (just wait.) Theory spends the entire conversation staring down at Scarlett as Gargano and Regal exchange words. Theory wasn't the only one distracted. Finally Gargano storms off. Theory keeps staring down at Scarlett. He asks her if "they're real" and says "they're huge" then adds "these are the biggest nails I've ever seen!" He inspects her gloves until Gargano comes back in and forces him out.
Match: Asher Hale vs Cameron Grimes
We return to the arena where newcomer Asher Hale awaits. Out comes Cameron Grimes next, all smiles as he's called a "walking, talking ATM." Our match starts off quick. Grimes has an early lead until the youngster Hale gets him against the ropes. Hale with a wicked leg crank along the ropes. Hale runs up the turnbuckles and dives off, but Grimes moves. Both men go at it, countering each other until Grimes successfully plants Hale with a driver. Grimes posts up in the corner, counts down, and hits the Cave In to end a short, but very entertaining, match.
Your Winner, Cameron Grimes!
Backstage Interview: KC2
Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter are being interviewed about the women's tag title match later tonight. They promise to be watching closely as they want a shot. Up walks Frankie Monet with her poodle. She tells them not to get their hopes up about the tag titles, then mocks them by saying she and her dog believe in them. We go to break.
Tag Team Match: the Grizzled Young Veterans vs Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher
When we return to the arena, the GYV are out in the ring and cut a great heel promo, insulting the crowd and their opponents. Ciampa's music plays and out come Thatcher and Ciampa, wearing matching-colored blue and white tights and identical hoodies. Really starting to look like a team. We start with Gibson and Ciampa. Both jockey for control early on. Ciampa catches Drake off the ropes with a huge kick. Ciampa starts utilizing working holds to wear down Drake. Ciampa with a cover but no joy. Ciampa pulls Drake over and tags in Thatcher. Thatcher puts an arm lock on Drake. Drake escapes and backs up to his corner as Gibson talks to him quietly. Finally, Gibson tags in and locks up with Thatcher. Gibson attempts to wrap up Thatcher from behind but Thatcher forces the break by manipulating the fingers. Thatcher takes Gibson down to the mat hard and manipulates Gibson's right arm, pulling the elbow in awkward angles and the arm far behind the back. Gibson screams in pain until Thatcher loses control. Gibson with fists to Thatcher before locking on an ankle lock of sorts (not the Angle version). Thatcher with a standing switch. Thatcher gets Gibson on his knees and applies a headlock. Drake runs into the ring to help his partner, but is intercepted by Ciampa. Ciampa drops Drake to his knees and both men pound forearms and fists on the Grizzled Young Veterans as the ref starts to warn them with a count. They laugh and return to their corner as we go to break.
When we return Drake is in control. Drake takes Thatcher to the GYV corner and tags in Gibson, who holds Thatcher for Drake to dropkick in the back as Gibson pulls him down into a modified unprettier. Gibson with a headlock on Thatcher, twisting his head hard to the side. Thatcher starts to slowly rise to his feet. Gibson with some weak headbutts to slow Thatcher. Thatcher escapes and both men collide head-first in what didn't look like a planned spot. Ciampa and Drake make the tags and Ciampa, looking more jacked than ever, hits the ring on fire. Ciampa fights off Gibson then takes down Gibson and Drake with a speedy double lariat. Ciampa whips Drake into their corner and pounds on him. Thatcher tags in and does the same. Ciampa tags in, runs off the ropes and catches Drake with a fast knee. Thatcher is tagged in. Thatcher looks for a leg hold but Drake uses his free leg to kick Thatcher off. Drake tries to crawl to his partner but Thatcher wraps him up from behind. Drake breaks free with back elbows. The ref loses control again as all four men end up in the ring, slugging it out. Ciampa its a Cactus Jack clothesline on Drake, sending both men spilling to the floor. Gibson and Thatcher, our legal men, slug it out in the middle of the ring. Gibson with an uppercut. Thatcher quickly takes control back and locks Gibson in a hold. Drake hits the ring to save his partner, and when Ciampa starts to enter the ring he's sent flying into the announcer's table by Drake. When Ciampa recovers he is again sent into the announcer's table by Drake. Gibson and Thatcher wrestle for control. Ciampa tries to enter the ring but this time, the ref has an issue with it. The distraction allows Thatcher to use Wade Barrett's shoe as a foreign object, striking Gibson across the head and submitting Gibson with an arm lock.
Your Winners, Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher!
Backstage: William Regal, Johnny Gargano, and Austin Theory
Gargano wants Theory to break down Regal's door. Regal walks up behind them and asks what Gargano wants. Gargano thinks its unfair that he defend his North American title against Bronson Reed. Regal tells him that he will defend the title. He then turns to Theory, telling him "and (you)...your new best friend Scarlett made sure you (have) a match against Karrion Kross next week." Regal claps him on the shoulders and ducks into his office as Gargano and Theory look worried. We go to break.
Backstage: Isaiah "Swerve" Scott & His Crew
Three people are with Swerve but aren't named. Swerve is excited, as are his Bianca Belair-ish friend, a Sons of Anarchy reject, and some generic background dude. If I had names, I'd give 'em to ya but I've never seen them before.
In the RIng: Scarlett with NXT Champion Karrion Kross
Kross and Scarlett do their usual awesome entrance. Scarlett is still in the same outfit as earlier but Kross is wearing street clothes, including a snazzy vest. Kross gets on the mic and tells us that three weeks ago, he told people to step up and take their chance. But he's hearing that people are saying they aren't afraid of him. Kross says he's not afraid of them either. He fires up and tells them to come out here, and let's have a fight. "I am the NXT Champion. I don't have to go back there to find someone to fight." Kross then turns his wrath to Austin Theory, and promises to Dive Bomb Theory on his head and leave him face-down and unconscious. Cue: Kyle O'Reilly! "Cool Kyle" O'Reilly makes his way to the ring wearing a red flannel shirt, a fedora and blue jeans. When he enters the ring he removes his hat and bows his head to Scarlett as a sign of respect. He then talks to Kross, telling Kross that the match KOR wants is against Kross for the title. He says its the match we all want to see. Cue: Pete Dunne. Dunne gets on a mic at the top of the stage. "Are you two having a laugh? I don' care who wants to see this match and I don' care about the new Kyle O'Reilly, and trust me mate--I don't care that you stand there, new NXT Champion." He enters the ring, attempting to goad Kross into a match. Cue: Finn Bálor! Bálor makes his way into the ring. He tells Pete Dunne he's already "done that." He tells Kyle O'Reilly he did that--twice. He tells Kross that once he's done with Theory, he---Before he can conclude his speech a brawl breaks out between all four men. Kross clears the ring and wants to follow outside as Scarlett stands behind him with his belt. A security guard attempts to hold Kross back and eats a Doomsday Saito for his troubles. Security force the rest up the ramp. Cue: Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory who attack Kross from behind! They work together but he proves formidable enough to gain control until Gargano hits Kross with the North American belt across the head, laying out the champ! Theory and Gargano back up the ramp, happy with their actions. We go to break.
Match: Zayda Rammier vs Sarray
When we return, Zayda is in the ring. Sarray comes out completely calm and poses. Our competitors ready-up and the bell rings. Zayda and Sarray meet in the middle of the ring and shake hands in a sign of respect. THey then engage, executing a sequence of single moves followed with pin attempts, each woman getting their fair share in before Sarray takes control. Sarray with knees to the midsection. Zayda is down after rebounding off the ropes and running right into the feet of a dropkicking Sarray! The ref checks on her but she's good to go. Zayda is fired up and locks a wear-down hold, pulling the neck back to put pressure on the back. Sarray makes her way to the rope to force the rope break. Sarray quickly takes control. A big back bodyslam from Sarray. Sarray locks in a modified surfboard but Zayda reaches the ropes. Sarray catches Zayda with another dropkick to the face, and covers for a close two. Sarray heads up top as Zayda stands. Sarray with a missile dropkick off the top and right to Zayda's face again! Sarray allows Zayda to get up. Both throw fists. Zayda whips Sarray into the ropes, but Sarray drops Zayda with--you guessed it--a dropkick. Zayda attempts another basement dropkick but Zayda has her scouted and moves. Zayda takes control, beating Sarray into the corner. Zayda with a big uppercut in the corner, followed up by a Sling Blade and a close-two cover. Sarray gets to her feet and kicks Zayda in the head. Sarray with a beautiful German Suplex followed by another and a pin for the win!
Your Winner, Sarray!
Imperium sit in the back as Walter talks to them in German by way of an iPad. We're given no translation and the segment ends. Okay.
Backstage: Zayda Rammier and Sarray
Sarray is checking on Zayda after their match, again showing mutual respect. Toni Storm starts to walk up fast but is intercepted by Andrea from The Walking Dead.
Match: LA Knight vs Jake Atlas
Atlas is in the ring and out comes Knight on the mic. He doesn't fail to cut yet another great heel promo, calling the audience and downvoting trolls Incels. The bell rings and Atlas comes in hot. Atlas with an arm drag. Knight comes off the rope and is taken down with a hip toss. Knight attempts to take control but Atlas sends Knight out of the ring with a series of kicks. Atlas goes for the Suicide Dive but Knight catches him with a strike. Knight takes it in the ring and pounds on Atlas. Knight takes Atlas to the corner hitting fists and snapmare to the middle of the ring. Atlas and Knight get up and exchange fists--I don't think they even came close to landing at all--but both men obviously are Force users, battering each other with Force Fists. Knight takes control and sets Atlas up on the top rope. Knight runs up the corner but Atlas dodges. Atlas with a few strikes before LA Knight hits the BFD to put away Atlas.
Your Winner, LA Knight!
Backstage: The Way
Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell are backstage discussing their title opportunity. From behind them, Dexter Lumis is illuminated through the blinds of a rear door, roses in hand. Candice notices and discreetly closes the blinds and tells Indi to stop thinking about "that boy" and get her head in the game. Their match is up next.
Backstage Promo: Toni Storm
Storm cuts a promo on Zoey Stark, telling her that she doesn't belong in the same ring with her. Storm praises her own accolades and says Zoey is nothing but a loser. Toni tells Zoey by way of the camera, "I brought you into this business and by God" when she's good and ready, she'll "take (her) out."
In the Ring Promo: Legado Del Fantasma
Already in the ring are Santos Escobar, Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde. Escobar calls himself the undisputed king of luchadore. Everything he says, his men back up--yes men to the end. Escobar promises to recover the NXT Cruiserweight Championship as its rightfully his. Wilde and Mendoza step forward and address MSK, telling them "don't think we forgot about you!" They remind MSK that Legado defeated MSK in an embarrassing fashion last week. He then leads into making a case for a title shot. They ask for a title shot. Escobar says that the measure of a man is not what he can do for himself, but what he does for his brothers. He begins speaking Spanish again but Kushida cuts him off. Kushida says something in Japanese but despite how many times I listen to "Turning Japanese" I'm still unable to interpret. Kushida and Escobar build towards a match next week.
Next Week's Announced Matches
After an awkward interview/double-promo video, Raquel and Mercedes spent three minutes awkwardly insulting each other. Raquel told Mercedes that she may be Raquel's first challenger but she won't be her last. We also learn that Kushida will face Santos Escobar in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match. Austin Theory will also be murdered by Karrion Kross next week.
Backstage: Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon
Both women are backstage, walking to Shotzi's tank as their match is coming up. A cute dog is in the tank and they're excited until they see that the dog has run off and left poop in their tank. We go to break.
Party in Da Club
We're shown the exterior of a club. Cameron Grimes wants in and says he's on the list, but the bouncer tells him there is no list tonight. Grimes is perplexed...and riding up in a limo is none other than "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBIase! DiBiase mentions perks of being rich. He wants in the club? He just bought it because everybody has a price for the Million Dollar Man!
NXT Women's Tag Team Championship Main Event Street Fight Match: Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart(c) vs The Way
The Way are set up in the ring. Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon come out to the sound of a chainsaw--Shotzi is dressed like Freddy Kruger, complete with clawed glove, and Ember Moon is sporting a hockey mask a la Jason Voorhees. Who totally won in Freddy vs Jason, just saying. Before the bell rings and before the lights come up, all four women clash. This is a street fight so there is no tag format and no DQ. Indi and Shotzi fight on one side of the ring as Candice and Ember slug it out on the other. Candice gets the upper hand and pulsl weapons out from under the ring. Shotzi makes the save and both women work together to double team Indi Hartwell.Moon sits a trash can over a seated Hartwell. Moon and Blackheart both run off the ropes and double dropkick the trash can, squishing Hartwell. LeRae hits the ring to make the save and sends the champs out of the ring. Candice checks on Indi then goes for a Suicide Dive but is pancaked by the champs, each wielding a trash can lid. Hartwell gets back into the match, whipping Moon into the barricade. Hartwell hoists up Blackwell and drops her across the apron. Hartwell isn't playing anymore and takes Shotzi to the nearest barricade, draping her over it. Hartwell with a big running strike. Shotzi sets up for steel chairs, two side by side with another two facing them. Moon and Blackheart attack Hartwell and double team suplex her across the four chairs. They set up a fifth chair on top of the other four, then sit Hartwell on it. Ember Moon stands in the ring, pulling the ropes apart for their usual Suicide Dive double-team, but right as Shotzi starts to fly she's stopped by LeRae, who's blowing a fire extinguisher in her face. We go to picture in picture commercial break.
During the break The Way take control. They work together to isolate ember from Shotzi and beat Shotzi at ringside. Several weapons are pulled out, including tables, ladders and chairs--oh my! LeRae sets up a table, leaning it in a corner as she goes outside for more chairs. Moon tries to fight off Hartwell but LeRae shuts her down with a steel chair to the back. LeRae sets the steel chair up in the corner opposite the table, wedged between the ropes. We return from break and as Ember engages Candice, the chair falls out of place.
All four women begin to brawl in and out of the ring. Moon uses a chair to work over Hartwell and LeRae briefly. Again, the champs work together for another great double team. This time, Moon hoisted up Hartwell for Blackheart to slam from behind. The champs are fired up and chest bump each other. Shotzi sees LeRae on a ladder, prone, as the ladder extends from the ring apron to the barricade. Shotzi runs up top and dives off, hitting a Senton onto LeRae. The ladder fails to bend or break, and only slightly goes askew as both women crash into the metal, off the ladder and into the floor. The ref checks on them. Ember Moon continues to work over Hartwell in the ring. Shotzi is up first and takes a smaller ladder into the ring. Again, Shotzi & Ember look for a double team move--a double running ladder clothesline--but Hartwell kicks the ladder, laying out both! LeRae climbs up top as Hartwell sets Shotzi laying on the smaller ladder as its held up by the middle rope and Hartwell. LeRae dives off, crashing into Blackheart and to the mat. LeRae covers but Moon makes the save. Hartwell and LeRae take control in the ring, working over Shotzi and covering her. Ember makes the save. Indi takes Shotzi outside and whips her hard into the barricade. The in-attendance fans pound on the plexiglass enthusiastically as Shotzi climbs high up the support rafter column. Shotzi dives off and flies easily ten feet above Hartwell, splashing down on Hartwell and through the table! The crowd goes crazy with a "this is awesome" chant. We're in a big overrun! Moon hits a big Powerbomb to LeRae and covers for two. Moon goes up top, looking for the Eclipse, but LeRae punches her first. LeRae goes up top, looking for a Superplex. Shotzi runs over to make the save, but LeRae dodges and Shotzi runs face-first into the top turnbuckle, sending Ember Moon flying out of the ring. Hartwell focuses on Moon outside the ring and puts her through a table as Candice LeRae hits Blackheart with brass Knuckles! LeRae now with the Wicked Stepsister on Shotzi, a steel chair beneath her covers and we have new champs!
