As previously reported, WWE legend and 17-time World Champion John Cena announced the John Cena Classic tournament at Backlash. This tournament will feature main roster talent competing against NXT stars, with the winner being crowned the inaugural John Cena Classic Champion through a fan vote.
According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, many details about the tournament are still undecided, including the date and venue. One source indicated that an early December timeframe would make the most sense, aligning with WWE's current calendar and marking the one-year anniversary of Cena’s retirement at Saturday Night’s Main Event—a show that also showcased matches between main roster talent and NXT stars.
The report further reveals that Netflix expressed immediate interest in hosting the event on its platform, though this has not yet been finalized. Overall, it has been noted that very few details about the Cena Classic are currently set in stone.
