Former WWE creative team member and Hall of Famer Brian "Road Dogg" James recently participated in a In-Studio Signing where he briefly touched on his decision to leave WWE, citing personal reasons:
"It was moving too fast. It was just moving too fast for me. We talked about my brothers and their grandkids, and I didn’t get to spend a whole lot of time with mine. So I’m going to do more of that now."
James served as co-lead writer of WWE Smackdown before he decided to step down from his position and leave the company about a month ago. It was his second stint as a writer on Smackdown, as he previously was in a similar position from about 2016 to 2019, when he stepped down and joined NXT in various roles. He indicated during the virtual autograph session that he is interested in getting into the podcast world again now that he has no official role with WWE.
James was also asked if prior to his departure, he had any influence on the card for the upcoming WWE PLE WrestleMania 42:
"Yeah, I did. A lot. I think it’s strong. I think it’s as strong as you’re going to get. I really do. I’m excited about Brock and Oba Femi. Look, I got nothing bad to say. I think they’re moving fast and they are growing expeditiously. Financially, they’re setting records. Like, you can’t say nothing bad. It just was moving too fast for me. I’m getting older, and it’s a young man’s game. They’re running fast, and they’re running fast internationally."
