-- As noted recently, Rey Mysterio is reportedly working for WWE without a contract, continuing a feud with Seth Rollins that began weeks ago and is expected to wrap up later this month at Extreme Rules where the two will wrestle in a gimmick match, rumored to be an "Eye for an Eye" match. In the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, it was reported that when negotiating a new contract with WWE, Mysterio approached Vince McMahon and asked for a raise but McMahon wasn't able to give him one, pointing to the current COVID-19 climate where he had to release several wrestlers from their contracts. When WWE was unsure whether Mysterio would stick around or leave, they scripted the "eye injury" as a possible way to write him out of storylines but he ended up sticking around to further the feud and his son Dominik was incorporated into the story.
-- As far as Mysterio's status with WWE goes moving forward, it is completely up in the air as negotiations are still ongoing and WWE wants him to stay, but the Extreme Rules match could very well be used to once again write him out of the program. At this time, Mysterio remains without a contract and could show up in AEW or any other promotion but it sounds like ultimately he will end up staying with WWE as his son is going to get a shot to develop into a wrestler there though he would surely be given a chance wherever Mysterio lands.
