Sami Zayn Praises Bret Hart's Heel Character In WWE, Would Like To "Modernize It" For Himself

Sami Zayn has a lot of respect for Bret Hart.

The current WWE Superstar contributed to a recent Sportsnet featured article that looks at the history of the career of the aforementioned two-time WWE Hall of Fame legend.

In the article, which is dubbed "Oral History: How Bret 'The Hitman' Hart Became 'The Excellence Of Execution,'" Zayn reflects on the heel persona that Hart portrayed in WWE back in 1997.

During the end of Hart's run in WWE, he portrayed this heel character, which featured him talking badly about the United States of America while constantly praising his own home country of Canada.

As Zayn explains in the article, he feels the character would work well for him in modern-day WWE. He wrote about his interest in adopting the gimmick and "modernizing" it with a more "intellectual approach."

"I would love to do a more modernized version, a bit more of an intellectual approach, a bit more of a factual approach to what Bret did in 1997 because I thought it was revolutionary,” Zayn said. “It’s never been done before and it’s never been done since."

Zayn added, "Global hero, despised in one country like that. It was revolutionary, we all remember it, we all rave about it to this day."
